Since 2016 we've been known as Unbroken Technology. As mostly a 2 person shop servicing custom programming and website project needs we're finally pivoting away from services and into products.
While we enjoy business and life tools, our true passion is video games! That's why we fired up a DBA called Unbroken Fun and hope to release games into the world.
Our first game will be called Trope Tales and is scheduled to release June 30, 2026. Once we have our steam store page up I'll edit and update this post with a wishlist link! (This is me from the future - I spent long enough writing this post we have a steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2682200/Trope_Tales/ )
Our History
Where did it all begin?
Well back in the long, long ago my husband started a little company called Chikachu, named after a sound he made with his mouth. From there we proceeded to take on a couple of college clients who wanted to pay next to nothing for marketing studio grade websites.
After paying more in tax fees than we made in revenue, we decided to pause and maybe not do the self-employed thing.
Then in 2012 my husband received a phone call from his father. His father had recently been laid off from a big company and had started working with a manufacturing company in the south. Back then most websites were basic and ugly HTML-based monsters with often many links to PDFs created by marketing firms for content.
My husband had learned to code at age 8 through Lissa Explains it All, so by the time he was 22, he'd worked on quite a few web projects in a time where people were still learning about the internet.
So my father-in-law made a bet with the owner:
If my son doesn't live up to his reputation after 1 week, I'll pay him. If he impresses you then you pay him.
So off he went. Needless to say he smashed the test. The owner not only paid him for that week, but kept him full time for many years to come. This led to several more customers over the years because we finally had a core website portfolio piece.
Finally a success story for us! Then we decided to pull the classic corporate move and "rebrand". Being into norse mythology we picked "Alfheim Web". People didn't know how to spell it, say it, or remember it. Honestly Alfheim Web made us realize why an easy to pronounce misspelled word is such a popular route for so many companies. Finally we sat down for a long time and decided we needed a name with a few criteria:
The name has to be versatile to future ventures.
The name had to use dictionary words.
The name had to be easy to spell and pronounce.
We had to be happy with it.
Unbroken when we looked it up was a highly uncommon word in business. People didn't use unbroken in their branding. It felt like the perfect word.
From there we tested different word combination to see what options for a .com domain existed. Unbroken Technology just felt right for us.
Over the years we continued as a technology and web company, but with the addition of two young children now is the time to pivot. We feel our time has passed for building into something larger scale from Unbroken Technology so we turn our sights to video game creation.
Since Unbroken was our core word - Unbroken Fun just fit! Plus there is a sub domain fun so we're able to be unbroken.fun !!
Our Promises
As a game studio, there are a few things you can expect from us:
Honesty
Wherever and whenever possible we want to present honestly
Transparency
We don't believe in hiding life's truths even if that means pushing back our release date because kids are a lot to juggle when young!
The old college try
We're not professional game developers. We'll probably get some things wrong, but we'll always try to do a good job even if the experience size is scaled to our abilities.
Try to make it fun
That's the goal and the aim. Bring fun to people - maybe not a lot of people, but hopefully some people
Integrity
We don't aim for shady business practices or weird money making methods. As gently straightforward as we can be.
Be Human
Our staunch belief is in the kindness and goodness of the world. We plan on putting out what we want to see in the world. This means trying to approach life the same!
Our Future
So where do we go from here? We have our brand and our new goals. Trope Tales is definitely our first game. It spawned back in 2019 and thanks to the gift of parenting has been a long standing unfinished project. The story holds a lot of the nostalgia and heart my husband found in his experiences playing JRPGs growing up. From there we have numerous ideas that will take time to test and grow. Our hope is to release several additional games over the next 2 decades and then turn our attention to game development full time in retirement! Our dream is to spend our golden years being healthy and entertaining the world with delightful little games or stories we develop. This is our dream to retire to be indie game developers! So welcome to our little corner of the world. It is quirky and small, but it is ours to share with whomever wants to be a part of it!
